Default Oris back from warranty...

Got the call today that after 4 months my Oris ProPilot is back from warranty. It had to go to Switzerland; it was horribly slow and inconsistent in different positions. Just like me. I can't get myself cervixed but at least I could have the watch fixed.

I plan to pick it up tomorrow as the traffic during the week is rather bad where I need to go. Hopefully it will be running as it should, or at least as best as they could achieve. I ordered the bracelet for it and that is at the AD as well so I think I'll have that installed since they'll need to size it. I'll probably leave it on.

Stay tooned.

Do you have any deets on what had to be done to correct the problem? How come it couldn't be fixed locally?

Sounds like a major overhaul. Sometimes the company doesn't let certain movements or movements w certain complications get repaired at regional centers. 4 months for a trip to Switzerland ain't great, but it's not horrendous either.

Dunno why it had to back to Europe. I'll try to find out tomorrow what they did to it. It's their in house movement 111 with 10 day PR so I don't expect it to be consistent from full wind to low wind. But it clearly was not acceptable hence I sent it back. Good thing I have other watches, right?

Wow 10 day power reserve.
I don't think any of my watches can go more than 2.

Yeah, the mainspring is over 5 feet long when uncurled. The single barrel dominates the movement. I'll post some photos when I get it back. Only upside, other then getting it fixed (hopefully) is that it's like getting a new watch twice for one purchase price.

Watch in my hands:

Took it to the Rolex AD (which is truly a watch B&M; the Oris AD is a jewelry store.)They have a guy who does bracelet mounting and sizing but they don't have a timing machine and they don't do service.

Results are:

VB +6
VG +11
VH +12
VD +6
HB +13
HH +11
Avg +10

They demagnetized it:

VB +5
VG +12
VH +13
VD +4
HB +13
HH +13
Avg +10

More important to me is the beat error avg is .2 and avg amplitude is 291. These are far superior to the original readings which had a beat error of up to 2.7 so clearly work was done, although Oris supplied no data on what the work entailed.

The watchmaker told me what I suspected, that at full wind, the 10 day movement will likely run fast but as the PR declines, the watch will slow down. I will verify that, and I will control the PR from within 7-3 days or take into account where it runs best.

So far so good, IMHO.

Really nice looking watch, though I don't know what the numbers mean.

From French:

VB = Crown down
VG = Crown left
VH = Crown up
VD = Crown right
HB = Dial down
HH = Dial up

So I leave it to rest in crown down and will see how that pans out over the course of the depletion of the PR. I took the bracelet off and am attempting to fit a Vintager mauser strap. Having an issue finding suitable springbars in my stash.

I mounted the mauser strap but decided, as I often do, to go back to the original strap. I don't really like the taper from 22 to 18 but the deployant is unique so that's what I am gong with, at least until I change my alleged fickle mind.

The turkey still runs about +10 as stated above which is somewhat disappointing but since I rarely wear the same watch 2 days in a row, I can live with it. I find my Rolexes to be the most position consistent and overall most accurate. My EXP II is virtually exact.
