Ω Omega Watches Astronauts wore them to the moon. You can wear one to work as well. And look darned good at the same time. |

The true story of my recent trip to the Omega boutique
Last weekend while perusing the Short Hills mall, which is one heck of a mall by the way... I decided to enter the Omega boutique. I walked in. I walked out.
#endofstory
While Omega has some pieces that sort of catch my eye, I just could never bring myself to pull the trigger on one because of how closely priced to Rolex they are. For the money I would much rather a new Rolex.
Beautiful watches, but not so beautiful prices.

Yeah, they're attempting to exclusivize themselves. I wish them well, but they'll need to make sure that they protect their resale price point by saturation advertising, a la Rolex, or cult cultivation like Panerai.

While in King of Prussia mall I noticed that they had a Tag Heuer boutique. Needless to say. I kept walking.

I agree too.
The new Omega all-black Speedmaster moon watch is priced at $12,000 !!! That is CRAZY money, and WELL into Rolex territory. At this point, Rolex is absolutely next on my list.
Just 10 or so years ago the average Seamaster ( or even when the Planet Oceans first came out ) one could be had for WELL under 3 Large. Now, the starting price of a Seamaster is like almost 4, with the PO's going 5-8K. Absolutely insane.

I recently picked this up for my brother who lives out in Denmark.
It was 'used' (unworn with stickers as it never left the store) and I bought it at approx 40% off. Even with VAT taxes and customs/shipping charges it was still a hell of a lot cheaper than a real used one in his country. The great thing about omega is that they make a nice watch but have no resale value at all so i as long as you plan on keeping it you can get a real nice 'used' watch for low cost.

WOW ! That is an absolute stunner Seamaster Chrono Bill !!
Omega Chrono divers are my favorite. Nice and think, and all business. That, and you can actually USE the pushers underwater, which truly makes this a functional dive chrono.

Thanks Mike. I like that watch a lot and my brother was just over the moon about it. He'll be keeping it forever.

I still have my Bond Seamaster. It's such a beautiful watch I will never get rid of it. Bought it brand new back in 2006 when it was nearing the end if it's production run.

Don't neglect it, give it some wrist time. Thirty years from now it will be cool to look back and think about all the years you have had that watch for.

Thanks! That strap, or even a black gator, makes a great difference over the bracelet, IMHO.

If I had a see through caseback like that I'd never get any work done.

That is one beautful Speedy !
I've never owned a speedy before, but I was considering it at one point. If I were to get one, it would be the classic Speedmaster Pro "Man on the Moon" watch with the manual winding movement.

It is the "sapphire sandwich" model. I lot of people prefer the hesalite crystal model with the solid caseback. I think that model is a grand less as well. I prefer this version.

I do too and the fact that it's manual wind doesn't have the rotor blocking the view.
Very very nice.

I somewhat have a thing for the DeVille series. They feel more...elegant? compared to Rolexes.
And I still have a tiny crush on the Speedies even though everyone has one.

no, and I need to get a couple links removed. Been droppin' lbs and all my bracelet watches are getting too large. I took a link out of my Panerai already. And, I've adjusted my GMT, and I've actually adjusted my YM twice! I think I can remove the extra link now.

You didn't mention anything about removing links from the DSSD. Is that because of the highly adjustable bracelet?
Oh and congrats on droppin' lbs. You know you are making great progress when you have to adjust your watches. Awesome!

no, no links from the DSSD. But, then again, I've been wearing my PAM ALOT. Like, most every weekend. May need a bit of adjustment.
The DSSD is the only watch I didn't need to add a link to, either. I'll have to check it out.
edit: Actually, after thinking about it, I've kinda become a 4 watch guy lately. Work watch (was ss GMT IIc, now G-Shock Mudmaster), PAM for most everything else, Zenith for admirin' (lol) and occasionally the tt Yachtmaster, for something a little more dressed up.
Everything else has been sittin'. Too busy to enjoy these days.
