Picked up this beauty on Sunday: a 1969 Sunn 2000S in near mint condition. The only flaw is a small scuffed section of the speaker grill cloth. The tolex is completely intact. Still has the original RCA 6550s under the hood along with 2 very large Dynaco transformers. Total American horsepower, rated at a very conservative 120 Watts.

For those maybe not totally in the know, the 2000S was the ne plus ultra of bass rigs in the late ‘60’s, prior to the development of the Ampeg SVT and the Acoustic 360. This model pretty much drove the original Woodstock concert. Sunns from that era were known for two things. Clarity and loudness. Major loudness. This had everything to do with the head circuitry, which was based on a hi-fi Dynaco design, as well as the heavy-duty 2 x 15 cabs, loaded w JBL D140s, with silver dust covers. The power rating standard was at 1% THD , which was rare for tube amp manufacturers.

This one has finally found it’s last home. It’ll get played through, for those times when I’ve decided that my hearing is just too sensitive, and I’d like to assault my eardrums. But mostly it’s a part of the collection.

That's one awesome piece of hardware Doc !!

Never seen anything like it.

I'm sure you'll give it a good test drive !

It's a good thing the neighbors are far away from you

I doubt if even the girls got to see one of these. They were really too loud for club gigs. Plus pricey. In ‘69, this would have been $1800. A VW Beetle would have been something like $1600

True story. The reason Marshall guitar amps started going to 11 was because the guitar players were whining they couldnít keep up with these monsters.

Alright, doc, are you musically inclined? I know your son is.

If you are, why don't I know this about you? I'd like to hear the jam

Turns out Derek Smalls was one of the biggest users of the 2000S in the late '60's

You can hear the bottom heavy output of this beast on most of their seminal early work

This one is called Beauty Meets The Beast.

At first she was a bit intimidated.

ďItís sooo BIGĒ, she cooed, trying to hide her apprehension .
